Preface: The Fibonacci sequence is the series sum of its predecessors. (i.e. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, etc…) This sequence is found everywhere in nature, from tree growth, to the florets of flowers, to the hives of bees. It can be applied to the growth of almost every living thing, including humans. Each line of my poem is composed of a number of syllables that "swing" on the Fibonacci...
1 Seeds
2 Planted
3 In our minds
5 Uninhibited
8 To grow, to lean, to reach for more
8 In infancy, ponder the “why”
5 Observe the like-mind
3 Seek “how come”
2 Outcome
1 Here
1 There
2 In youth
3 We spring out
5 Fall; then Spring again
8 Ebb and flow : Life’s changing seasons
8 Adolescents compete for sun
5 The light that matters
3 Merely one
2 Gives life
1 Chance
1 Bloom
2 Expand
3 Spiral up
5 Long for sky unknown
8 Beautiful organic conscience
8 The vast arena we play in
5 Chaotic cosmos
3 Pale Blue Dot
2 That’s us
1 Now
1 Then
2 Future
3 Successors
5 Offspring of our spores
8 Will find a new field to call “home”
8 The few, with petals on display
5 Reach, and lead the way
3 Nary wilt
2 Divine
1 Swing
1 frickin awesome poem...love how you worked the numbers...was intrigued from the title...

ReplyDelete2 Mazing.
I, too, was drawn in by the title and it did not disappoint. Rather, it eclipsed. Your complex take on the life cycle of every living thing fitted the prompt well and really set my imagination raging. Excellent poem.
wow bryan - loved the swing of this Fibonacci sequence - this gave a most comforting rhythm and i felt like i was carried through your words...yep - i second brian - frickin' awesome
ReplyDeleteNot sure what impresses me more, the intricate design of the measured lines in syllables or the overall import through the layers of meaning. Outstanding combination of function and expressions of consciousness.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for adding the video—stunning animation that illustrates and accompanies your poetry quite well. (The sunflower animation is incredible!)
Write on, Pounds! Cheers, dustus
Incredible integration of math and poetry! The poem, indeed, has an organic rhythm to it. Fascinating!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Bryan. Delightful poem and video!Poetic numbers.
ReplyDeleteNice use of form that echoes the way that complexity is built from simplicity
ReplyDeleteVery cool!
ReplyDeleteIntriguing! I might have to play with this.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, I quite enjoy this piece. I found the architecture in the given sequence a beautiful way to write for this prompt. I loved this series:

I love this quantification! But even without the numbers, this is a cool poem.

oh my, are you not the brilliant one...what a wonderful weave of science and art to show that they are of one nature...beautiful ~
ReplyDeleteYou take a very disciplined and rigidly repetitive form and do what Nature does with it,than which no higher praise--produce a work of beauty and grace, rippling with multiple facets. Enjoyed it greatly.
ReplyDeleteDear friends of the text, I revel in how you all relate to the off tangent styles of poetry that I tend to gravitate to. Yes, our immediate surroundings are beautiful, but while we must respect our ground, our eyes should marvel at the vastness and possibility of our sky. There's poetry everywhere. I thank you all whole-heartedly, and dearly for continually to show me just that.
