Perception
‘tis the most pretentious notion
Thoughts of one as fair
‘tis not fair, the fairytale
Beasts of burden
What’s the purpose, porpoise? Poisoned, your apple
Admirable admirals, set the sail
For sell : Self, for rent.
Setting sights as the sun sets
The brightest star in view
Her eyes on
Horizon
Still Frame
Mirror, mirror, where for art my castle?
Lip service to amphibious frogs
Sermons in the bog; fogged
The memory, white horses lost
Grimm faced brothers
Reapers who sow, sorrow
Their thoughts, dwarfed red
Heartfelt supernovas in wait
Weight
Heavy, ‘tis the head, wears the crown
Comatose to see
The forest, the tree
Holy wood, Arbor Mist
Why so cross?
No touch of lip
Nary an ambivalent embrace
Nor a profession of progressive affection
Could handle the spell of these bees
A definition, A verse to appease
In royal courting we create
Daily narcissism we live
Our blood runneth thick
Blue & Red
Mixed, in purple
The people eaters
In vein.
Ha! Excellent, Pounds. I'm chuckling over the coincidences in our responses. lol nice
ReplyDelete"Nor a profession of progressive affection / Could handle the spell of these bees" Powerful line taken both in and out of context. Great wordplay and control of sound flow interspersed with staccato rhythm throughout. The title rocks too.
this is lovely...all the alliteration and quick rhymes create a marvelous flow for your message...nicely played.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you've mixed archaic and contemporary images and language here, along with your usual blended word play throughout--the line adam mentions caught my eye as well, also "..Lip/service to amphibious frogs/Sermons in the bog; fogged/The memory, white horses lost..." with its neat list of fairytale cliche skewered. This particular prompt seems to be addressing that part of the psyche.
ReplyDeleteI love the opening lines:

Really intriguing and drew me into this like a snake charmer. There is intense imagery here. I especially liked:
Grimm faced brothers
Reapers who sow, sorrow
Their thoughts, dwarfed red
Heartfelt supernovas in wait
A really thoughtful and well constructed response to the photo. Well done.
Kind regards, James.
Pretty clever writing and I really enjoyed this layered response. Fairytail intermingled with reality. Whatch out for those people eaters
ReplyDeleteYou've taken the photo and pulled out of it a host of images, allusions and a sense of centeredness (or self-centeredness, which a mirror suggests). Great poem.
ReplyDeleteReally like the whole piece the twists and turns...the mirror, mirror that preception of frogs and white horses...nice to meet you at One Stop....looking forward to more...bkm
ReplyDeletei like your brain brian
ReplyDeleteInnocent narcissism in the mirror, is that an oxymoron? Not a trace of obvious self centeredness in her eyes but you see it because you know it is there.
ReplyDeleteNot easy for me to follow; surrealism takes me a while.
ReplyDeleteBut I will persevere.
simply brilliant...love your word play, how it carries without missing a beat nor losing punch...inspiring write/read ~
